A 16-year-old boy from Mundra in Gujarat was detained by the police for allegedly issuing rape threats against Mahendra Singh Dhoni's minor daughter. Former Indian cricket captain MS Dhoni's five-year-old daughter became a target for rape threats on social media after Chennai Super Kings lost a cricket match to Kolkata Knight Riders at the ongoing edition of Indian Premier League.
“The class 12 student from Namna Kapaya village was detained for questioning in connection with a disgusting threat message that was posted on the Instagram account of Dhoni’s wife Sakshi Dhoni a few days back,” Kutch (West) superintendent of police Saurabh Singh told reporters.
As per a report, the teenager, who has also “confessed” to the crime, said he had posted the threatening message on Instagram because he was upset about the cricket match, police said.
“We detained him for questioning after Ranchi police informed us that the accused hails from Mundra in Kutch district. We have confirmed that the boy is the same who had posted the message. He will be handed over to Ranchi police as the FIR was lodged in that city,” Singh said.
Rape threats to MS Dhoni's Daughter
Many have been criticising MS Dhoni for CSK's performance at IPL tournament this year. Following the team's loss to KKR on October 9, trolls took to social media to post abusive comments against the cricketer and even his daughter. Dhoni's daughter was threatened with rape, which led to a social media outrage.

Journalist Rohini Singh tweeted, “This is the sickest thing I have seen on social media. A 6 year old baby getting a rape threat. A baby.”
Journalist Swati Chaturvedi wrote on Twitter, “Being a woman is a crime in India." Politician Priyanka Chaturvedi wrote that this was the "most disgusting example of how social media platforms are being misused," in a tweet.
This has to be the most disgusting example of how social media platforms are being misused. If GoI still turns a blind eye to this then I’d say they are complicit in promoting& condoning such mentality with regards to women&sick, perverse mentality https://t.co/Wjm3caWltf— Priyanka Chaturvedi (@priyankac19) October 9, 2020
Following the incident, reportedly, security has been tightened outside Dhoni's farmhouse in Ranchi where the family is currently staying while the cricketer himself is in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for the ongoing 2020 IPL cricket tournament.
