10 Years Of Jail To Father Accused Of Raping Daughter

A Delhi sessions court has awarded 10 years of imprisonment to a father who raped his own 5-year-old daughter. The judge said that there is no reason why a child would lie about her own father. The survivor accused her father of sexually harassing her in a state of intoxication.

“The convict has committed rape upon his own daughter, who was only 5-year-old at the time of offence,” said Additional Sessions Judge Gurdeep Singh. The judge found the man guilty under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The father lived alone with his daughter lived in a jewellery box making factory after his wife died.

It was in November 2013 when the man raped the girl in an inebriated state. Following the incident, the girl reported the matter to the manager of the factory. This led the manager to file a police complaint against the man

Now the court has announced a compensation of ₹7.5 lakh to the victim from the Delhi District Legal Service Authority. A lawyer from the Delhi Commission for Women acted as the assistant for the court in this matter.

The Delhi Police annual crime report 2017, which was unveiled recently, said that relatives or people known to girls commit 72.27 per cent of crimes against women. The report took into consideration all the cases filed between 2016 and 2017.

“Protectors are becoming violators, but this trend too will go down once the fear of prosecution sets in,” said Dependra Pathak, Delhi Police’s chief spokesperson during the release of the report.

Even the neighbouring state of Haryana is seeing a sudden rise in crimes against women and young girls in 2018.
