Actor Deepika Padukone, who welcomed her first child with husband Ranveer Singh in September 2024, is embracing a new chapter of life. Speaking at WAVES 2025 in Mumbai, Deepika shared what it’s been like stepping into motherhood and how her life has transitioned in beautiful and unexpected ways.
“That Person Comes Before You Now”
Deepika, who joined Shah Rukh Khan for a heartwarming session at the event, reflected on how much her world has changed since the arrival of her daughter, Dua.
“I'm discovering this new life post-embracing motherhood. The minute you've had a child, you're now responsible for another human being, and especially in the way I've led my life, it's been so much about me -- leaving home, my ambition, my career, and everything has been about my life and everything that I wanted for myself. And now, suddenly, you're caring for this person who is dependent on you for everything," she said.
She added, "I’ve always wanted to be a mother, so I'm enjoying every bit of that, but I'm now also navigating what this new life for me post motherhood is. That person comes before you. I don't think I've found the answer to that yet."
SRK’s Sweet Words For Deepika
During the session, Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika’s long-time acting co-star and friend, also shared his admiration for her new role. He praised her strength, saying, "I just want to add one more thing, which is very personal, so please excuse me if I’m stepping beyond boundaries. But I think the role she’s going to play the best, Inshallah, is that of a mother now with Dua. I think she’s really going to be a wonderful mother.”
Ranveer & Deepika’s New Chapter
Deepika and Ranveer Singh, who tied the knot in 2018, became proud parents to their daughter Dua Padukone Singh on September 8, 2024. The couple first introduced her to the world during Diwali with a touching message, "Dua: meaning a prayer. Because she is the answer to our prayers. Our hearts are filled with love and gratitude.”
While Deepika is adjusting to life as a new mom, her fans are eager to see her on screen again. Her last film was Kalki 2898 AD, and though there's a lot of buzz about her joining Shah Rukh Khan in King, she hasn’t confirmed anything yet.
Meanwhile, Ranveer is busy prepping for upcoming films including Aditya Dhar's next and Don 3 with Farhan Akhtar. As Deepika beautifully said, she’s still navigating this new life, but with all the love surrounding her, she’s clearly doing it with grace.
