Actor Deepika Padukone has recently been the target of intense online trolling after revealing her baby bump during a public appearance in Mumbai. The incident took place earlier this week when Padukone, accompanied by her husband Ranveer Singh, stepped out to vote in the fifth phase of the Mumbai Lok Sabha Election 2024. Her pictures from the outing quickly went viral, drawing a mixed reaction on social media. Unfortunately, some users took the opportunity to body-shame the actress and question the authenticity of her baby bump.

Deepika Padukone Trolled Over Baby Bump, Here's How Actors Supported Her

One user wrote, "She is not pregnant. This is embarrassing," while another commented, "Why is she walking like that? The bump isn't that big yet." As the negative comments continued to flood social media, journalist Faye D’Souza came forward in support of Deepika. Faye took to Instagram to address the issue, writing, "Dear social media, Deepika Padukone stepped out to do her democratic duty and vote. She did not ask for your feedback on her body or her pregnancy. You have no right to comment on any aspect of her life. Stop it. Behave."

While Padukone has not publicly responded to the trolls, she has received significant support from her peers in the industry. Actor Alia Bhatt was quick to show her support by liking Faye’s post. Alia’s sisters, Pooja Bhatt and Shaheen Bhatt, along with their mother, Soni Razdan, also liked the post, expressing their agreement with Faye’s message.

Actor Shruti Seth added her voice to the chorus of support, commenting, "Luckily, Deepika Padukone is too busy taking over the world to give a damn! She’s walking all over their damn opinions." Actor Tina Datta echoed this sentiment, saying, "Exactly! People have lost it."

Deepika and Ranveer, who have been happily married for almost six years, recently announced that they are expecting their first child. The couple shared the joyful news with their fans, revealing that they are looking forward to welcoming their baby in September 2024.

The situation with Deepika Padukone is reminiscent of a similar experience faced by Alia Bhatt in 2022. After announcing her pregnancy on Instagram with a sweet post featuring an ultrasound image (partially concealed with a giant heart emoji) and a picture of her husband Ranbir Kapoor’s head, Alia also faced backlash on social media.

A news website shared an Instagram post claiming that Alia’s work commitments had been delayed due to her pregnancy and that Ranbir might travel to the UK to bring her back home. Angered by the assumptions and misinformation, Alia responded firmly, “Meanwhile we still live in some people's heads. We still live in a patriarchal world. FYI, nothing has gotten delayed. No one needs to pick anyone up. I am a woman, not a parcel. I do not need to rest at all, but it's good to know you'll have a doctor's certification as well. This is 2022. Can we please get out of this archaic way of thinking? Now, if you would excuse me, My shot is ready."

Moreover, Anushka Sharma was heavily pursued during her second pregnancy simply because she chose to keep it private. Meanwhile, Deepika Padukone is being trolled for her pregnancy walk just because she shared the news publicly. Bipasha Basu faced criticism for her postpartum weight gain, while Alia Bhatt was trolled for quickly regaining her figure after giving birth. Why are pregnant women being bashed relentlessly for simply existing and embracing motherhood?
