Saif Ali Khan Stabbing Case: Every Key Detail From That Night
1. A burglary at Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor's home occurred at 2:30 AM on January 16. Police confirmed that there were no signs of forced entry, and no one was captured on CCTV entering the premises in the two hours before the attack. Authorities believe the intruder scaled the wall of an adjacent compound to access the building. "The intruder was familiar with the layout of the building and used the rear stairs to reach the floor where the actor resides," police sources said. It is believed he entered the apartment through the fire escape.
2. The intruder was first spotted by Eliyama Philip, the nanny of Saif's younger son, Jeh, around 2 a.m. "I saw the bathroom door ajar and the light on and assumed it was Kareena Kapoor. Then I sensed something was wrong, and when I went to check, I saw a man come out of the bathroom and enter Taimur and Jeh's room," she said.
3. Philip confronted the man, who then demanded Rs 1 crore. She tried to fend him off and was injured in the process. Junu, another house help, rushed to Saif Ali Khan's room and woke him up. Khan confronted the intruder, leading to a struggle in which he was stabbed six times. Another house help, Geeta, assisted in overpowering the intruder and locking him in a room. However, the intruder managed to escape before the police arrived.
4. According to police sources, the intruder was captured on CCTV on the sixth floor while fleeing. However, he was not seen in the lobby area, leading police to suspect that he used the fire shaft to reach the ground floor and exit through the back door. The entire ordeal lasted approximately 30 minutes.
5. Saif Ali Khan was left bleeding from six wounds, including a critical injury to his spine. The knife was lodged into his spine, causing a spinal fluid leak. He was rushed to Lilavati Hospital, located about 2 km from his residence. Doctors performed plastic surgeries on his hand and neck and treated the spinal injury.
6. Police have registered a case of robbery, trespassing, and causing grievous hurt. The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to track down the intruder.
7. Maharashtra’s Minister of State for Home, Yogesh Kadam, dismissed speculation that an underworld gang was involved in the attack. “A suspect who has been detained in connection with the attack is not part of any gang. No gang has carried out this attack,” Kadam stated during a press briefing in Pune. He also mentioned that there has been no prior indication of any threat to Khan.
“There has been no intimation from Saif Ali Khan to police to date on whether he faced any threat. He has not sought any security cover, but if he does so, we will follow due procedure," Kadam added. The minister emphasised that theft was the sole motive behind the attack on the actor.
The couple's luxurious Bandra residence, located in the building Satguru Sharan, is a spacious three-bedroom apartment with terraces, balconies, and a swimming pool. Saif and Kareena live there with their two children, Taimur, 8, and Jeh, 4.
