Jacqueline Fernandez Sukesh Chandrasekhar controversy explained: A photo of actor Jacqueline Fernandez with Sukesh Chandrasekhar, who is the main accused in a Rs 200 crore extortion case, resurfaced weeks after the actor denied dating the conman. On October 20 this year, the actor was questioned by a government agency in connection with the extortion case. Reportedly, the picture by the duo was taken sometime between April and June this year.

The photo shows Chandrasekhar kissing the actor's cheek while taking a mirror selfie with iPhone 12 Pro- the very phone he used to carry out his infamous extortion scam, with help of an Israeli SIM card.
According to the media reports, the duo met four times in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. For these meetings, Chandrasekhar had allegedly arranged a private jet, to facilitate Fernandez's commute. While the actor has denied being in a relationship with Chandrasekhar, his lawyer had earlier told the media, "Jacqueline and Sukesh were dating, these are my instructions this is straight from the horse's mouth."

- On August 7 this year, Aditi S Singh registered a complaint with the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Delhi Police alleging that she has duped Rs 200 crore under the pretext of securing bail for her husband.
- On September 6, Delhi Police arrested four associates of Sukesh Chandrasekhar and his wife and Madras Cafe actor Leena Maria Paul.
- Paul was said to be helping her husband in the extortion. The 32-year-old conman was behind bars at Rohini jail in Delhi in 2020, when the incident took place. He was first arrested in 2007 for duping over 100 people. In 2017, he was arrested again based on the complaint by politician TTV Dhinakaran for Rs 50 crore.

- After which he was lodged in Tihar jail and while in jail, he kept making extortion calls.
- In the year 2020-2021, he extorted Rs 200 crore by dupingAditi Singh, the wife of a former promoter of Ranbaxy.
- According to the complaint by Singh, she received a call on her mobile phone in June 2020 and Chandrasekhar introduced himself as a senior officer in the Ministry of Law who promised to help her get her husband out of jail.
- After the arrest of wife Leena Maria Paul on September 6, the ED questioned Jacqueline Fernandez and Nora Fatehi as Chandrasekhar had sent them expensive gifts.
- After skipping four summons for questioning, Fernandez finally went for it on October 20. There she was questioned for seven hours by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the Rs 200 crore extortion case.
- On October 20, she said to the investigators that she denied any wrongdoings.

- Chandrasekhar and his wife were arrested by ED on the extortion case in October 9, under the section of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
- On October 24, the lawyer representing Sukesh Chandrasekhar said to the media, "Jacqueline and Sukesh were dating, these are my instructions this is straight from the horse's mouth."
- To which Fernandez spokesperson replied, "Jacqueline Fernandez is being called to testify as a witness and has recorded her statement with the agency." The statement by the actor denied "alleged slanderous statements" about her relationship with the couple.
- The picture of Fernandez with Chandrasekhar resurfaced on November 26 yesterday, raising questions on the actor's claim that they were not involved romantically.
