- 72 Hoorain was premiered at the International Film Festival of India in 2019 where it won the ICFT-UNESCO Gandhi Medal Special Mention.
- The movie went on to win National Film Award For Best Direction in the year 2021 but was also considered to be controversial
- Earlier this month, prominent religious and political leaders in Kashmir decried the negative portrayal of Muslims in '72 Hoorain', saying the movie 'hurts the sentiments' of the community.
- The movie is slated to release on July 7 but the CBFC recently denied certification to the film's trailer, citing that the movie shows objectionable scenes that may be offensive to the audience.
- CBFC reportedly asked makers to remove scenes like the one with a dead body's feet, a reference to Quran and some scenes including animals.
- However, Ashoke Pandit, the co-producer of the film, as well as director Chauhan were upset with this decision and pointed out that the movie won a National award without any cuts or exclusions then why are they required for its public release.
