A woman named Julia D'Orazio, who is a freelance writer and a traveler, shared her experience of "#TinderNightmares," when a good-going sudden date of her movie-like dream was shattered by an anticlimax when a guy just walked off her. The interesting anecdote highlights D'Orazio's optimistic coping mechanism while also sheds light on complex mental health issues in young dating app users.

Hawaiian vacation turned sour for D'Orazio when her Tinder date decided to erupt out of her second date, leaving her stranded down the hike alone. What could have been a scenic date was described by D'Orazio as "I was hitting depression under Earth's depression."

Julia DaOrazio, vacationing on the Big Island, matched with a charming fellow named Jerry, whom she described as a "Tommy Lee type of surfer," whom she matched in just 48 hours of her arrival on the island.  They instantly connected over music, travel, and even a shared love of glute workouts.

D'Orazio dreamed about living her 'Party In USA' dream, an internet trend where people thrive and are conduits for cultural exchange and living a life in another town. As D'Orazio described it, she had "street cred" for the first time and a red convertible Mustang She was all excited and looking forward to living her dream vacation and meeting a young, handsome man, Jerry.

The First Dream Date

As the first date went well, D'Orazio described her delight to meet a man with good food suggestions as "A man who knows the way to my stomach." She recounted hitting him with the list of places she wanted to visit, while Jerry actively participated and willingly helped her explore new places. The first date quickly shifted to an adventure hike following a sundowner beach, as D'Orazio described the perfect sounding date as "Sunset flirts in magic dirt."

As the perfect date sounds like it couldn't have gotten any better, the traveller describes the date ending with a picturesque sunset, watching the sky turn into "cotton candy swirls," changing colours into purple and pink as they watched it on the shifting sands of the seashore while the "palm trees soured into silhouettes.". As D'Orazio stated, they admitted they had a good time together and decided to meet again to tick off the remaining adventures on her list.

#TinderNightmares

When a date goes perfectly, the anticipation and excitement that come with seeing them again rise exponentially. That's what this young woman must have been looking forward to when the couple decided to meet two days later. To her dismay, she sensed something was off as the "chirpy Jerry" was looking aloof and absent-minded.

As the plan was to take a three-hour drive to reach Hawai's National Volcano Park to hike one of the world's two most active volcanoes, D'Orazio was excited but made sure Jerry was up for it and asked him if he wanted to take the trip, telling him it's okay if he doesn't, as she did not want to force him. But he agreed to take the trip.

As she tried to decipher what was wrong with her date as she was pumped up, she tried to change the mood, but her attempts were ineffective. While DaOrazio was eager to explore the fiery landscape, Jerry delivered a bombshell of his own. He declared he was "working out his own way back" and planned to hitchhike home, leaving DaOrazio stranded at the volcano.

"Ain’t nobody going to ruin my ‘Party in the USA’"

D'Orazio described her situation as her jaw dropped from the shock of the situation as big as a volcano, as she could hardly spew some words out of her "What just happened?" to herself, watching her perfect date just walk away out of her life for no comprehensible reasons. She wondered if her company was insufferable, as no guy had ever left her alone walking away like that, that too on a volcano was bizarre.

As she was left alone in the dramatic situation, emotions started to pour in as she wondered did she got ditched on a volcano DaOrazio tried to make the situation lighter for herself as she joked: "I was hitting depression in Earth’s depression."

She described gathering her thoughts quickly and not letting a simple date that didn't work out according to plans dampen her spirits, as she said: "Sure, I felt shitty but soon I realised it was for the best." She added, realising that "It wasn’t about me; it was on him. I was glad that he discharged himself. Good riddance."

As the solo traveller decided to continue her afternoon alone instead of sulking, she once again realised how solitude was bliss as she explored the park to reclaim her "feel-good moment" as she said to herself, "Ain’t nobody going to ruin my ‘Party in the USA'."
