The days when women prioritized romantic relationships, travel, and financial success are eventually fading. According to a survey by Talker Research, on behalf of the wellness brand Intimina, 59% of women are now focusing on understanding their bodies, while 58% are emphasizing the importance of feeling comfortable in their skin.
Has Well-Being Become A Part Of Women's Priorities Over The Years?
The shift in priorities champions the development of a positive relationship with the body. Any travelling or professional milestones are not considered significant anymore as compared to a healthy and confident body. This development can be attributed to growing self-awareness and empowerment, leading to self-love and good health.
While the older generation finds solace in self-acceptance, the younger generation appears to grapple with the pressure to 'fit in' with societal norms. Constant expectations, along with the rise of the curated 'social media image,' are subtly undermining the body-positive movement.
New York Post's results revealed that younger generations have needed to put more effort into embracing their womanhood; 25% of Gen Z women surveyed and 21% of millennials said they’ve had to make a very conscious and strong effort. Many respondents have highlighted body image pressures (58%), disadvantages in the workplace (58%), perceptions about women’s personalities and gender roles (43%), sports (39%), and public safety (39%) as areas where women are more disadvantaged than men.
'Loving Yourself Isn’t Vanity; It’s Sanity'
The foundation of a healthy relationship with the body lies in embracing the changes our bodies naturally undergo. In this context, accepting and celebrating the diversity of a woman’s body is a crucial step. The hormonal fluctuations during a woman’s menstrual cycle bring about a range of physical and emotional changes, often leading to insecurities.
Social media often shows an unrealistic portrayal of women, embedding an 'ideal look' deeply into our minds. In a world focusing only on perfect appearances, many women grapple with low self-esteem and a lack of confidence.
While fostering a community of women from diverse backgrounds, a common thread that often emerges is the insecurities many women hold about themselves. By providing proper education and raising awareness around the natural changes in women’s bodies, we can promote an understanding and the necessity of a healthy, balanced lifestyle. As we celebrate and advocate for women’s empowerment, we are working toward laying the foundation for a more inclusive world.
