Interior designer and film producer Gauri Khan turns 50 today. She was recently in the news when she stood up for her daughter Suhana Khan who got trolled for her post on colourism. Known to be media-shy, the wife of popular actor Shah Rukh Khan is a well-known name herself, as a designer.

Khan has designed spaces for several high profile clients like Italian designer Roberto Cavalli, American fashion designer Ralph Lauren, Mukesh Ambani, and Bollywood stars like Siddharth Malhotra and Jacqueline Fernandes. Khan is also the co-producer and co-chairperson of the production house Red Chillies Entertainment which she established along with her husband in 2001. In 2018 she was named as one of the Fortune Magazine’s “50 most powerful women”.

Coming from an army background, Gauri Khan completed her education from Lady Shri Ram College, Delhi. She met Shah Rukh Khan is Delhi in 1984 before the start of his successful Bollywood career. They tied a knot in 1991 and are now parents to three children, Aryan, Suhana and AbRam.

She recently announced her debut as an author with the book titled My Life In Design, releasing in 2021. The book is based on her journey as a designer and it will function as a guide to aspiring designers.

1. On September 30, Khan took to Instagram to share a powerful message after her daughter Suhana revealed that she was trolled for her dusky complexion. Reminding women to stay rooted to their strength, she wrote, "I am a woman. Protector, muse, wanderer, achiever, dreamer...You only see a part of me. The part that is rooted in my role, not in my soul. All that’s unseen completes me, and from there I draw my strength."

2. It isn't easy for a person to carve their won identity, especially if they are related to anyway to a famous person. Being married to one of the most popular actors, globally, Gauri Khan knows this struggle too well. In a 2017 interview, she said, " I'm sure I will reach a position in my life where people will understand it's not about being Mrs. Shah Rukh Khan but about the work I do."

3. In another interview, Khan shared her business mantra with aspiring women entrepreneurs, "I would tell all women entrepreneurs to stay focused and positive. One just needs to keep moving without looking back. I believe that if you are passionate about what you are doing, and your heart, mind and would are connected with it, then you can't go wrong."

4. Gauri Khan took to interior designing a little late in life. But what matters is that she didn't let her age affect her decision to pursue her passion. "I want to do very good work. I may not become a world-renowned designer as I haven’t started in my 20s. But it’s never too late to do anything in life ..."

5. Khan has recently turned author, with a coffee-table book on interior designing pipeline. This book is her way of giving back to the interior designing community in India. "My career in design has taught me a lot that could help others wanting to step into this domain," said she.
