Last year, the team put an impressive score and won the FIH Women’s Series Finals Hiroshima. Their performance at the Olympic Qualifiers in November last year was brilliant as they got better of the USA team to earn their ticket to Tokyo Olympics.
Lalremsiami is from a small town in Mizoram. Last year she grabbed the spotlight when the team returned home after the victory at the Asian Games and the Youth Olympics.
India’s skipper and Captain Rani Rampal is always backed by defender Gurjit Kaur and if she plays, well-converted penalty corners are expected.
The 19-year-old received praise because of her decision to stay back and be an integral part of the FIH Women’s Series Finals in Hiroshima last month. She took this decision despite receiving news of her father’s demise before the crucial match.
Captain Rani Rampal gave India the lead in the third minute before drag-flicker Gurjit Kaur struck twice late in the match to set up the win.
Even though her father Lalthansanga Zote, died of a heart attack in the early hours of Friday, Indian women’s hockey striker Lalremsiami has opted to stay on with the team for their knockout games at the FIH Series Finals in Hiroshima.
