Indian Women Hockey team wins Quarter Final: Indian women's hockey team has created history today, as they won the quarter-final match against team Australia at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. This is the first time ever the women's hockey team has made to the semi-final stage of the event.

Team India secured the berth at the semis with a tight defense that thwarted any attempts of the world no 2 team playing opposite them. The score of the game was 1-0. The maiden goal of the match was scored by Gurjit Kaur.

The historic win comes just a day after men's hockey team also secured their place in the semi-final match, beating Great Britain by 4-3.

The Rani Rampal led team didn't have an easy start to their Olympic Campaign, barely making it through the pool matches. The odds were further touted to be stacked against them, playing in their first quarter-final match ever, as they were facing off against one of the world's top hockey teams. However, Australian team couldn't breach the team's solid defenses today, and failed to score a single goal, despite several penalty attempts.

So far India has won two medals at the ongoing 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu secures a silver for her country, whereas shuttler PV Sindhu won a bronze in Women's Single Badminton event on August 1, becoming the first Indian woman athlete to have won to two Olympic medals.
