Who is Sapna Choudhary: The Haryanvi music and television personality, known to fans as Desi Queen, has emerged as one of the most popular artists, expanding the scope of regional entertainment. Sapna Choudhary, primarily appearing as a folk singer and dancer in videos, has fashioned herself into a full-fledged icon with her work across platforms, bringing big mainstream recognition to Haryanvi music.

With the kind of fame she enjoys online, Choudhary it seems is never out of news. Even in the absence of the frenzy that generally surrounds any new Sapna Choudhary song, her fans make sure she is consistently in trends with views on her older, viral songs resurging.

Rumours of her death began doing rounds on the internet this week, following reports of an accident in Sirsa, Haryana. A Facebook post going viral claimed Choudhary was a victim of the crash. Hailing from Rohtak, Haryana, 30-year-old Choudhary first captured national attention with her appearance on television reality show Bigg Boss on season 11. Though she didn't make it to the finale, she was a viewer favourite on the show and  reportedly clinched the number three spot on Google's Most Searched Personalities of 2018.

The same year, Choudhary's song Teri Aakhya Ka Yo Kajal created massive buzz, both online, where it stayed in YouTube's top trends for a considerable period, and offline as a hit song at public events and weddings.

In 2019, Choudhary stepped foot into the political arena by joining Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at their membership drive program in Delhi. Read here. Earlier this year, she courted controversy after reports said she was booked in a case of alleged cheating and financial fraud.

Vocal on social media, where she boasts of over 3 million Instagram followers, Choudhary has spoken about facing bias in the Hindi entertainment industry, where she said she doesn't get "opportunities to showcase talent," adding, "I don’t want to wear skin revealing clothes and I cannot speak fluent English, which becomes a barrier at times."

Choudhary has been an artiste for well over a decade and has appeared in films Nanu ki Jaanu and Dosti Ke Side Effects.
