The 40-year-old Rukhsana Kausar gained fame almost a decade back when she killed Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) member Abu Osama and forced his aides to flee after they had raided her family's Rajouri home. Read on to know more about her.

Who Is Rukhsana Kausar?

  • Rukhsana Kausar was 27 years old when three members of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) stormed into her home in a remote Rajouri district area and began ruthlessly beating her family members.
  • The militants' commander, Abu Osama, was attacked with an axe by Kausar after she had had enough and emerged from her hiding place beneath a cot. Abu Osama was then reportedly shot with his own gun. Then she grabbed Osama's assistant's gun and handed it to her brother.
  • The family members quickly joined her and defeated the militants. The militants were forced to run when Kausar and her brother opened fire on them, according to the reports.
  • Today, Kausar's tale encourages young women and girls to stand up for themselves. The Kirti Chakra recipient is still an inspiration to many, serving as a police officer in her hometown of Rajouri. Misbah Kabir, her 10-year-old daughter, is one of them and aspires to follow in her footsteps.
  • But Kausar wishes for a world free of dread for her three daughters: Misbah, Sabah Kabir, and Sumeira Kabir. "I have braved many challenges in my life, but I hope my daughters can see a safer world. I want them to get educated and become responsible citizens," she goes on to say.
  • Kausar married Kabir Hussain, who is currently employed at Rajouri as an assistant sub-inspector. After the incident, her brother and uncle both got careers as police officers.
  • Her bravery won her numerous honours, such as the esteemed Kirti Chakra award, National Bravery Award, and Sarvottam Jeevan.  Despite winning numerous awards, including the Raksha Padak, Sardar Patel, Rani Jhansi Bravery, and Astha, Kausar's family is still under threat as a result of the events in September 2009. In the beginning, the family received protection but eventually had to give it up.
