After a nearly fatal motorcycle accident last June, all those memories came to an abrupt end for 58-year-old Andrew. Andrew was airlifted to the hospital for urgent surgery while unconscious. Their wounds were severe, with broken bones, internal bleeding, punctured lungs, and concussions among others. Three days later, when Andrew awoke, the nightmare had not ended. Twenty-nine years of his life had vanished without a trace. "He thought it was 1993," Kristy said.

He didn't even recognize his own daughters, Lorelai Mentzer and Amanda MacKenzie. The daughters claimed that he was "just" inquiring about his wife. "Where's my wife?" "Where's my wife?" he asked, and he believed her daughter was an employee of the hospital. The daughters tried repeatedly telling him a few things, but an hour later it felt like they were saying them all over again.

Doctors were unable to tell Andrew's family whether or not his memory would come back. The couple was able to walk once more following 11 days in the hospital and extensive rehabilitation, and in August they went on a family beach vacation.

Days later, the couple renewed their vows after Andrew proposed a second time. "Luckily, she said yes, It worked out because we had been married for 37 years or whatever," added Andrew. The only person who kept Andrew alive, according to Andrew, who doesn't have any memory of the accident, was his wife.
