Kristalina Georgieva is the chief of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and she made some concerning predictions about the world economy that has made everyone worried. She said, "We expect one-third of the world economy to be in recession" and continued to explain, "The year 2023 will be tougher than last year because the economies of the U.S., the EU and China will slow down"."Even in countries that are not in recession, it would feel like a recession for hundreds of millions of people,” added Georgieva.

Who Is Kristalina Georgieva?

Kristalina Georgieva was born and raised in a Bulgarian family of bureaucrats. She holds a master's degree in political economy and sociology and a PhD in Economics. She was also part of prestigious institutes like the London School Of Economics and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In 1993, Georgieva started her career at the World Bank where she joined as an environmental economist for Europe and Central Asia. With her impressive work, she soon became the director of the Environment Department in charge of the World Bank's environmental strategy, policies, and lending. She used to be the director and representative of the World Bank in the Russian Federation which was based in Moscow. Post that Georgieva moved to Washinton DC where she took another position as the director of Strategy and Operations, Sustainable Development. She left World Bank as a vice president and corporate secretary in 2010.

In 2016, Kristalina Georgieva ran for the post of United Nations Secretary-General but lost to Antonio Guterres. In the same year, Georgieva was appointed as the first CEO of the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the International Development Association by the World Bank. She had a key role to play in several important operations of the organisation. In 2019 she took the position of interim president of the World Bank Group. And soon after she was given the title of the Managing Director of the International Monetary fund.
