Who Is Falguni Nayar: The former investment banker, is steering her start-up Nykaa to a historic initial public offering with a valuation of $4.5 billion. The CEO and Founder of the beauty and retail platform Nykaa, will retain a 51 percent stake in the company.

According to a report by Economic Times, Nayar's company may file an updated draft red herring prospectus with the market regulator Sebi on Thursday to increase the primary issue size from Rs 525 crore to Rs 630 crore. according to banking sources.

Here's what you need to know about her

  1. Falguni Nayar is a graduate from Sydenham College of Commerce and Economics.
  2. She did her post- graduation from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. She had a specialisation in finance. Post this, she joined as a consultant with AF Ferguson & Co, a consultancy company and worked for eight years here.
  3. Later, she joined Kotak Securities. It is Kotak Mahindra’s institutional equities division and worked there for 19 years. She was the managing director when she left the company and started Nykaa.
  4. She was ready with a team in nine months. In an interview, she mentioned that opted for beauty and wellness space because it lacked competition. But at the same time, it was quite difficult to grow in the space.
  5. The company has now opened 68 stores across the country. It has around 1500 brands in her portfolio. This includes leading luxury labels like Bobbi Brown, L’Occitane and Estee Lauder.
  6. Its success can be gauged by the fact that Nykaa posted revenues of Rs 1,860 crore in FY20.
  7. It is possibly the only profitable unicorn that is going public.
  8. Nayar was awarded the ‘Businessperson of the Year 2019’ by Vogue India and the ‘EY Entrepreneur of The Year 2019 – Start-up Award’ by Ernst and Young.
  9. In an interview with SheThePeople, she had said, "Entrepreneurs should never give up when they feel like. They should be able to see through down periods and come out of it by finding the right solutions"
  10. She also said that single-minded dedication and renewed energy everyday is important for an entrepreneur to succeed.
