Danai Gurira, is a  Zimbabwean-American actress and playwright. She gained fame through the series called the Walking Dead. She was later seen in the movie Black Panther alongside Chadwick Boseman. Here are ten key things to know about Gurira -

  • Danai Gurira was born in Iowa. She is the youngest of four siblings, her family moved back to Harare, the capital of Zimbabwe after the country gained independence.
  • She attended high school at Dominican Convent High School. Afterward, she returned to the United States to study at Macalester College.
  • Gurira co-wrote and co-starred in In the Continuum.
  • Gurira made her acting debut on Broadway in August Wilson's play Joe Turner's Come and Gone playing Martha Pentecost in the year 2009.
  • Gurira starred in the drama film The Visitor in 2007 for which she won the award for Best Supporting Actress.
  • In 2008, Gurira appeared at the Global Green Sustainable Design Awards to read a letter written by a New Orleans native displaced by Hurricane Katrina.
  • One of the most notable research papers written by her is, Running head : the neglect of black women in psychology.
  • Other select acting credits include the films "All Eyez on Me" (NAACP Image Award nomination), "The Visitor", "Mother of George" and the NYS&F’s "Measure for Measure" (Equity Callaway Award).

Gurira is the person behind LOGpledge.org (Love Our Girls), an awareness-building campaign focused on women and girls around the globe, A lover of art, Guriri also co-founded Almasi Arts, which works to give access and opportunity to the African Dramatic Artist.
