Planning To Watch Thalaivii Online? Here's What You've Got to Know

Planning to watch Thalaivii online? Kangana Ranaut's ambitious biopic on actor-turned politician J Jayalalithaa is releasing this week. Thalaivii was scheduled for releasing in April this year, however, due to the COVID-19 second wave in India, its makers decided to postpone their plans.

As many films have opted for an OTT release in light of the pandemic and the resulting restrictions on cinemas, there is much confusion over the release of Thalaivii. Will it have a simultaneous release on OTT and in theatres? If it is solely releasing in theatres, then when will viewers be able to stream it?

Thalaivii cast

Aside of Ranaut in the lead role, Thalaivii boasts of an impressive supporting cast. Actor Arvind Swami, will be seen in the role of actor-politician MG Ramachandran, while Madhoo will be seen in the role of MGR's wife VN Janaki. Actor Shamna Kasim will be seen in the role of politician VK Sasikala. The film also features actors Bhagyashree, Poorna and Raj Arjun in important roles.

Thalaivii Release Date

The Kangana Ranaut starrer is set for a theatrical release on September 10. Its makers plan to release the film on Netflix in Hindi and Prime Video in Tamil and Telugu, two and four weeks after their theatrical release, respectively.

Where to watch Thalavii

Thalaivii's Hindi version is facing a resistance from multiplexes as the producers are planning to release it on OTT just two weeks after its theatrical release. Multiplex operator PVR has put a hold on the release of Thalaivii in Hindi. Due to the pandemic the gap between a film's theatrical and OTT release has already come down to four weeks, from the earlier window of eight weeks. But this proposal to bring it down further to two weeks hasn't gone down with multiplex chains.

Thus, as of now, the release of Thalaivii's Hindi version, both on OTT and in theatres seems to be fraught with hiccups and we will have to wait till September 10 to see if the makers of the film are able to find a solution that will ensure a smooth release of the film.
