Thalaivii Release Date And Time: Actor Kangana Ranaut is coming out with her ambitious multilingual project Thalaivii this week. The film is a biopic on actor-turned-politician J Jayalalithaa, who went on to become the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. The film will be released in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi.
Thalaivii’s release has seen multiple setbacks. It was initially to premiere in theatres in April this year. However the makers of the biopic had to call off their plans as India began to witness a massive rise in number of COVID-19 cases that led to a tragic second wave. There were speculations that the film would eventually opt for a direct OTT release following the likes of Bhuj: The Pride of India, Shershaah, Helmet and the upcoming Bhoot Police, Annabelle Rathore and many more.
However, the makers then announced that the film will have a theatrical release, after which the film will arrive on OTT following a gap of few weeks.
When and Where to watch Thalaivii
The Tamil and Telugu versions of the film will premiere in cinemas on September 10. After a gap of four weeks, the film will have its digital premiere on Prime Video. The Hindi version of this film will also have its theatrical release on the same day, however, its digital premier is scheduled on Netflix after just 15 days of its release in cinemas.
This narrow gap between theatrical and OTT release has left many multiplex chains miffed. Multiplex chain PVR has put a hold on the release of Thalaivii‘s Hindi version, as per a news report. Multiplex operator INOX could also take a similar step. The decision comes as theatres are forced to run on a 50 percent occupancy due to COVID-19 pandemic related protocols and also have to reduce the window between theatrical and OTT release from eight weeks to four.
Thus, as of now there is very little clarity over running shows for Thalaivii‘s Hindi version. However certain cinemas are showing booking options for morning shows of the film on its premiere date.
