Mirabai Chanu’s victory marked the second gold medal she won at the Commonwealth Games and Chanu broke the previous record when she bagged the gold medal. Netizens took to social media to congratulate the weightlifter and a video of her mother and her relatives' celebration of the gold medal went viral.

In the viral video, Chanu’s mother was seen dancing with her relatives while holding the Indian flag. Chanu shared the video with the caption, “My mom and other relatives celebrating victory at my home”. Chanu’s mother was waving the Indian flag and leading the dance as they held hands, formed a circle, and danced in celebration.

The short clip received more than 1.8 million views within a day and received more than 196,000 likes. Netizens and Chanu’s fans shared their excitement for her victory and celebrated her accomplishment. One user wrote, “Whole India is celebrating your victory along with your family”. People wrote that they were proud of the weightlifter and congratulated her.

Images of Chanu interacting with her fans were also shared on Twitter and went viral. The champion took selfies with her fans and spent time with them after her victory.

The 27-year-old Mirabai Chanu’s victory marks her third successive medal at the Commonwealth Games and her second gold medal at the games. She won the gold medal in the 49 kg women’s weightlifting event at the Birmingham CWG and set her personal record by beating the previous record. Chanu herself held the previous record which she set at the CWG 2018.

At the CWG 2014 held in Glasgow, Chanu won a silver medal and at the next game held at Gold Coast in 2018, she won the gold medal with a 191 kg lift in the 48 kg category. Chanu proceeded to win the gold again and broke her own record with a 201 kg lift at the CGW 2022.

Hailing from Imphal, Manipur, Chanu had previously impressed the nation at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 when she won the silver medal.
