JUNG_E is both written and directed by Yeon Sang-ho, known for his work on the box office 2016 hit Train To Busan as well as the 2021 Netflix series Hellbound. The forthcoming release of the movie will mark Yeon’s first film he wrote and directed since 2020’s action horror heist film Peninsula, which starred Kang Dong-won, Lee Jung-Hyun, and more. ‘Train To Busan’, was highly praised and made quite a noise internationally. It made him win several directorial awards.

The ">trailer of this thriller sci-fi takes the viewers into the future, the year 2194. The human species is now forced to live in shelters built in space due to major climate changes on earth. The eruption of war takes place, led by Jung_E, a mother and a fierce soldier. On the other end, we see major AI developments taking place in the form of brain cloning. It develops as a war between AI and Jung_E, and the audience is thrilled about watching Jung_E break free.

JUNG_E Plot

JUNG E is a dystopian science fiction film set in the 22nd-century world, where climate change has rendered the planet uninhabitable and forced people to live in artificial structures. Elite leader of the allied troops Jung-E (Kim Hyun-Joo) becomes the subject of a brain cloning experiment when a conflict breaks out inside the shelter, which is crucial to winning the war.

The movie stars later actor Kang Soo-Yeon as Seo-Hyun, Kim Hyun-Joo as Jung-E, and Ryu Kyung-soo as Sang-Hun. Veteran Korean actress Kang Soo Youn makes her last screen appearance with this movie as she passed away on May 7, 2022, due to a cerebral haemorrhage.

Director Yeon stated regarding the coming science fiction movie, "With the issue of AI, I want to produce a work that blends the outstanding visual aesthetics of the SF genre and a highly relevant topic that is at the core of people." The filmmaker continues, "JUNG E is a work in which elements such as unexpectedness from relationships and unexpectedness between humans and non-humans exist. This is an extension of my idea of creating a relatable film about human nature. We also hope that it will provoke reflection on the question of whether human nature is truly limited to that of humans.  This movie is set to release globally on Netflix on January 20th, 2023.
