Huma Qureshi fundraiser: Actor Huma Qureshi, who has started a COVID-19 relief for India, said that when she reached out to her industry colleagues for support, they quietly contributed to the cause, without any publicity.
Huma Qureshi had earlier launched an initiative with non-profit organisation Save The Children to build a temporary hospital in collaboration with filmmaker Zack Snider in Delhi. The Maharani actor, in an ">interview with Film Companion, said that celebrities contribute to various fundraisers or charitable trusts but "quietly". Qureshi said that every individual, famous or not, should try to help at least one person, so the country could overcome this crisis together. She further added that for her fundraiser, she messaged a lot of people because "I know that in our industry, there are a lot of people who do good things, but don’t announce it to the world." She urged a lot of people for support and noted that when they did not reply she thought, "It is okay, maybe they have ignored" but many of them have "quietly gone and generously donated to the charity".
"I messaged them saying, ‘I thought you were just ignoring me.’ They were like, ‘No, you are doing so good, we wanted to support you but we don’t want to come at the front of it, so we quietly made our contribution.’ That touches me,” the actor said.
“There are people who don’t want any kind of fanfare and we need to understand and appreciate that goodness. I just want to tell people that before trolling someone, they should know that a lot of people are doing a lot of work behind the scenes. And if someone is taking time out from work to even help one person, what is bigger than that?” Qureshi added.
The actor said that she and her Army of the Dead director Snyder are working to build a temporary hospital facility in Delhi which will have as many as 100 beds along with an oxygen plant.
About the COVID-19 relief initiative, Qureshi, in a statement, noted, “As you all know our medical system is so overburdened and Delhi, our capital is in dire need of help.”
On the work front, Qureshi's latest zombie movie came out on Netflix earlier this month. She has Valimai, Bell Bottom and the series Maharani in her kitty.
