Helmet release date: Aparshakti Khurna and Pranutan Bahl starrer film Helmet is set for an OTT release this week. A comedy film with a relevant social message, Helmet raises pertinent questions on protection, but not in the context of road safety. The film is about stigma around usage of condoms and contraceptive meassures in India and how difficult it is for men to buy it even today.
Apart from Khurana and Bahl, the film also features actors Abhishek Banerjee, Sharib Hashmi and Ashish Verma in key roles. While actor Dino Morea has produced the film, filmmaker Satram Ramani has helmed it. This marks Khurana’s first film as a lead actor, so far he has played supporting roles in films like Dangal, Luka Chuppi, Stree and Pati, Patni Aur Woh. Bahl, on the other hand, has featured in one film so far- Notebook, which released in 2019.
What is Helmet about?
The story revolves around a couple of small town friends who rob a truck full of e-commerce supply to earn some quick money. However, instead of getting their hands on mobile phones, they end up with a consignment of condoms. Lucky (played by Khurana) then comes up with the idea of a start-up company that supplies condoms as per demands of the customers- anytime and any place. They name their company “Helmet”.
In April this year, the Central Board of Film Certification passed Helmet without any cuts and with a U/A certificate as the film is based on a relevant subject. Morea, who is a co-producer of the film, told Mid-day, ” No movie has been made on this subject so far, and we hope the audience will have a good laugh watching this satire.”
Echoing his sentiments, Bahl said in an interview recently, “I believe it always takes time for any kind of social stigma to completely go away but we all are hoping that with Helmet we can start a healthy dialogue about the fact that why there’s a taboo attached to something which is actually very normal,” further adding that it is a wise thing to purchase a condom and use it.
