The series, which was written by Oseman herself, focuses on Charlie Spring (Joe Locke), a gay high school student who falls in love with his classmate Nick Nelson (Kit Connor), whom he sits next to in his new form. The plot also explores the lives of Tao, Elle, Tara, and Darcy. It was well-received by critics, who praised it for its tone and tempo, as well as its portrayal of the LGBT community.

It quickly rose to the top of Netflix's English series list, becoming one of the top ten in just two days. It also boosted the popularity of the graphic novels and the songs from the series.

Heartstopper season 2 Cast:

As the two begin their public relationship, their best friends Elle (Yasmin Finney) and Tao (William Gao) will be there to encourage them. Olivia Colman might reprise her role as Nick's mother, who learned about her son's sexual orientation in the final episode.

Mr. Ajayi, the teacher who let Charlie and Nick spend recess in his classroom away from prying eyes while Nick fought to come to terms with his sexuality, will be played by Fisayo Akinade again. But it won't be all roses, with Sebastian Croft's Ben Hope, Charlie's secret ex who is both closeted and bullied, still on the loose. Rhea Norwood would most likely play Imogen, who liked Nick but didn't realise he was in love with Charlie.

Heartstopper season 2 Plot:

Heartstopper will most likely pick up right where it left off when it returns. Nick has finally revealed his sexual orientation to his mother and is ready to name Charlie his partner. When the secret is out, it will be interesting to observe how the rest of the school reacts. Ben, who, despite his refusal to come out, has developed a sense of ownership over Charlie, is unlikely to be thrilled by this development. Now that Charlie has left, it appears to be even more intense.

Charlie revealed in an interview that he had been battling with his mental health since coming out, and Alice Osman told Digital Spy that this is something we might see more of in the future. She continued, "If we get future seasons, I'll definitely want to bring in the themes of mental health because that's something that's extremely vital in the books."

She added, "The challenge in writing Heartstopper was to explore those deeper problems while maintaining such a positive and cheerful tone. That has been the most difficult aspect of writing it for me the entire time. But I'd like to believe it's doable. In the books, I feel like I've accomplished it. I was able to be very open and honest about mental health, and I explored it in a genuine way, without writing anything that is highly triggering or extremely dark and disturbing to read or watch. That is, in large part, my intention for the show."
