According to reports, the Saudi Arabian censors refused to award the movie a certificate of distribution due to the presence of a gay character in the film. However, Nawaf Alsabhan, Saudi Arabia's general supervisor of movie classification, stated that the moment in which Chavez alludes to her "two moms" should be deleted. Meanwhile, they have ruled out the possibility of the film being banned in the country.

Saudi Arabia reportedly wants Disney to delete twelve seconds from Doctor Strange 2, where America Chavez, a character in the episode, talks about being raised by two mothers.

Who Is America Chavez?

Joe Casey and Nick Dragotta developed America Chavez, a superhero that appears in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. In the comic, America Chavez believes she was raised by her two mothers in the Utopian Parallel, a world that exists outside of time and in the presence of the Demiurge, who she credits with bestowing superpowers on her.

According to her memory, the Utopian Parallel was threatened by demolition when Chavez was around six years old. Chavez's mothers gave their lives to seal the black holes, causing their particles to be strewn across the Multiverse. Chavez fled away from her family and her obligations, wanting to show herself as a hero and understanding that Utopia didn't require salvation. She traversed multiple universes, eventually taking on the persona of Miss America and secretly acting as a superhero.

Chavez was seen in Vengeance #1 in September 2011 before joining the young Avengers in 2017 book of Gabby Rivera. Not only gay but Chavez is Marvel's first Latino LGBTQ+ character to star in a long-running series.
