Here's Alia Bhatt Starrer Gangubai Kathiawadi's New Release Date

Gangubai Kathiawadi Final release date: Gangubai Kathiawadi, starring Alia Bhatt, has finally got a release date. It will release on February 25. It has been directed by filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali. In fact, his banner Bhansali Productions announced the new release date via their official Instagram page.

The biopic features actor Bollywood actor Alia Bhatt in the lead role of a brothel madam Gangu. The movie also stars Ajay Devgn in an interesting role. The film is based on Mafia Queens of Mumbai, a novel by author-journalist Hussain Zaidi. It is co-produced by Jayantilal Gada’s Pen India Limited.

Here are a few facts about Gangubai Kathiawadi 

• She was born in 1939 in Kathiawar. She was the only girl child in her family. She studied in a government school.
• Ramnik Lal, her father’s accountant whom she ran away with to Mumbai, forced her into prostitution and sold her to a brothel.
• She rose through the ranks and to power by using the links she had with the underworld.
• She was in charge of several brothels in Kamathipura, Mumbai.
• Since she was sold into prostitution at a young age, she sympathised with other women who suffered the same fate. In fact, many walls in Kamathipura still have her images hung on the walls.
• She was earning enough to buy herself an expensive car. Interestingly, she was the only brothel owner in the 60s to own a black Bentley.
• She was known for taking efforts to improve the lives of sex workers. As per a report, she met with Jawahar Lal Nehru and spoke to him about the issues faced by sex workers.
• Gangubai also made an effort to improve the living conditions in Kamathipura, which led to her winning the respect of the community.
