Starring Alia Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna and Mouni Roy in lead roles, Brahmastra was released at the box office on September 9. For months prior to the release, Boycott Brahmastra trended on social media as fans pointed out the nepotism and favouritism that took part in deciding the main cast and also owing to the hate among fans for Karan Johar who produced it.

The movie got mixed reactions from fans and the VFX of the movie was really appreciated which saved the film and was the highlight. The Alia-Ranbir starrer is not a stand-alone and is part of a trilogy based on Hindu mythology.

Director Ayan Mukerji took to Instagram and shared a note with updates on the trilogy, the Astraverse, and his life. He mentioned the criticism the first film received and revealed that they would take "a little more time to perfect the script" for Brahmastra 1 and Brahmastra 2.

Brahmastra: Part Two - Dev will release in theatre in December 2026 and the final film in the trilogy will release a year later, in December 2027.

Mukerji had earlier talked about the sequel in his Instagram post as he celebrated Brahmastra Part One: Shiva's achievement at the box office. He wrote, "PART TWO: DEV & The ASTRAVERSE! I didn’t think I would be ready to get back to work as soon as this first baby was delivered, but the Energy from our Audiences has given me the Energy to jump straight back into it…! For all this… Thank you".

Ayan Mukerji's trilogy is a part of a cinematic universe called the Astraverse which finds its inspiration in India's ancient history and cultural beliefs. It focuses on astras, their powers and their origin.

Ranbir Kapoor will star in the second movie as Shiva and will be joined by other actors. Ayan Mukerji has also talked about a spin-off movie on Shah Rukh Khan's cameo character Mohan Bhargav in the movie that will elaborate on the origin of Vanarastra and how he wielded it.
