The 33-year-old will be participating in a series of competitions in the United Kingdom, ahead of the Tokyo Olympics. The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports on Wednesday approached the UK Government, through the Ministry of External Affairs of Government of India, to grant a visa to Izhaan Mirza Malik. A former doubles world No. 1, Mirza has been granted a visa but the same is uncertain for her son and his caretaker owing to the travel restrictions on Indian travellers due to the country's COVID-19 strain. A British High Commission spokesperson has told The Indian Express that the case is still pending but they are looking into the matter at the earliest. The star tennis player approached sports minister Kiren Rijiju’s office stating that she “cannot leave a two-year-old child behind as she travels for a month.”

The mother of one will compete in four tournaments in the the United Kingdom, starting with the Nottingham Open from June 6, followed by the Birmingham Open on June 14, the Eastbourne Open on June 20, followed by the Wimbledon Grand Slam, beginning June 28. Is Sania Mirza’s biopic on the cards?

Mirza, who is a part of the ministry’s Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS), is set to participate in a few tournaments in the country ahead of the Tokyo Olympics.

Last year, Mirza made a comeback at the Hobart tournament and stepped in a court after almost a two-year of maternity break. She missed the entire 2018 and 2019 seasons after giving birth to her son. The ace tennis player became the first Indian to win the Fed Cup Heart Award for her successful return to the court post motherhood. She donated the prize money to the Telangana CM relief fund.
