Tennis player Sania Mirza has to go to England for tournaments there. After that, she will be seen playing at the Tokyo Olympics. She will now be competing in a series of tournaments such as Nottingham Open (from June 6), Birmingham Open (from June 14), the Eastbourne Open (from June 20) and the Wimbledon (from June 28).

The UK visa for Sania Mirza's son Izhaan and his caretaker hasn't been given due to the COVID-19 travel restrictions. This restriction is applicable to Indians, owing to the rising number of COVID-19 infections in the country.

Sports Ministry's Letter to MEA

The Sports Ministry said that Sania Mirza is a part of the Sports Ministry’s Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS). She had approached them for help in securing the UK visa for her son, and his caretaker. The ministry then added that Sania couldn't leave her son behind, as she will be out for almost a month. Now a letter has already been sent to the MEA, requesting them to do something about this, by getting in touch with the Indian Embassy in London.

Kiren Rijiju approved Sania Mirza's request

Union Sports Minister, Kiren Rijiju said that he had approved the request and that the Sports Ministry have started the process for the same. “I have approved the request and Sports Ministry officials have initiated the process with the MEA. We are hopeful that the UK Government will see merit in this case and allow the child to travel with Sania," he said.
