Who is Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi?

Born in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, on June 12, 2009, Maaya started playing tennis at age eight and went pro within two years, under the guidance of former-India No.1 tennis star, K.G. Ramesh. She then trained at Pro Serve Tennis Academy with coach Manoj Kumar, whose mentorship has led Maaya to develop a powerful gaming strategy.

Maaya has won five junior titles: four J60s and one. She also earned an invitation to the Australian Open 2023 Under-14 showcase that year. She also finished as a runner-up in the Senior National Championships 2024. Maaya made her senior tennis debut in an ITF W15 tournament in Egypt.

At the WTA 125 Mumbai Open earlier this year, her impressive performance led her to become the youngest Indian ever to achieve a WTA ranking. Her versatile and aggressive all-court playing style has secured her wins against top-seeded opponents, including Iryna Shymanovich, Mei Yamaguchi, and Zarina Diyas.

Maaya heavily drew inspiration from Sania Mirza and Rafael Nadal. She also earned a scholarship to train with her idol at the coveted Rafa Nadal Academy. "We got the invitation via email, and we went there. It just happened we were looking for a base in Europe, and we were so surprised by the invitation, and it felt like everything was in place," Maaya told ESPN.
