Indian Women Shooters' Clean Sweep At Asian Games: A Look At Winners

The trio of Manu Bhaker, Esha Singh, and Rhthym Sangwan clinched gold in the women's 25 m pistol event, while another trio of Sift Kaur Samra, Manini Kaushik, and Ashi Chouksey secured silver in the women's 50 m Rifle 3P at Asian Games 2023.

The trio of Manu Bhaker, Esha Singh, and Rhthym Sangwan clinched gold in the women's 25 m pistol event, while another trio of Sift Kaur Samra, Manini Kaushik, and Ashi Chouksey secured silver in the women's 50 m Rifle 3P at Asian Games 2023.

Sift Kaur Samra and Ashi Chouksey also bagged a gold and a silver medal for the country at the individual shooting event. 

Triumph Of Women Shooters At Asian Games

September 27 proved to be a brilliant day for the women's shooting range at the Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou, China. The women shooters so far have clinched a team gold in the pistol event, and another team bagged a silver at the rifle event, while two women shooters made it to the finals of the individual shooting event. 

India's Golden Trio Clinches Gold

Said to be a formidable trio to watch out for on the world stage, the team of Manu Bhaker (21), Esha Singh (18), and Rhythm Sangwan (19) clinched gold in the women's 23 m pistol shooting event with a total score of 1759. The host country, China bagged silver with a score of 1756, and the South Korean team secured bronze with a 1742 score. 

One of India's top shooters, Manu Bhaker topped the qualification round with a 590 score, meanwhile, Esha Singh secured a fifth position with a score of 586, and Rhythm Sangwan ended seventh with a 583 score. However, Sangwan missed the cut as only two shooters per country are allowed to enter the finals. 

21-year-old Bhaker who was also the youngest gold medalist of India especially topped the game shooting nine 10s and one 9 to score 99 maintaining her hegemony in the qualifications at the tournament. 

India's Top Rifle Trio Shined With Silver

The triumphant trio of Sift Kaur Samra (22), Ashi Chouksey (21), and Manini Kaushik (22) displayed remarkable skills at a fiercely contested women's 50 m Rifle 3 Positions event at the Asian Games securing second position in the tournament with a total score of 1764 in the qualification round, bagging a silver for the country. 

The gold medal however was won by the the host country, China scoring 1773 points, while South Korea secured third position with 1756 points. 

Star shooter, Sift Kaur Samra secured the second position with an impressive score of 594 qualifying for finals, while Ashi Chouksey secured 6th position with 590. Manini Kaushik also gave her best finishing in 19th position with a score of 570. 

Samra and China's Siyu Xia also scripted history by setting the Qualification Asian Games record with their score of 594 out of 600.

Ashi Chouksey Secured Bronze

India's 21-year-old sport shooter Ashi Chouksey managed to stay in the game as she was led to individual finals after her team secured silver in the rifle event. 

Chouksey did not disappoint the country as she secured third position in the women's 50 m Rifle 3 positions individual event at the tournament. Chouksey finished with a score of 451.9 bagging bronze for the country. 

However, Chouksey was outperformed by China's Zhang Qiongyue securing silver in the women's individual finals event with a score of 496.6. 

Sift Kaur Samra Broke Record, Scripted History

The 22-year-old star shooter made the country proud with her commendable performance at the Asian Games event clinching gold in the women's 50 m Rifle 3 Positions individual event setting a world record of 496.6 points. 

Not only did Samra set a new scoring world record in the tournament, but also scripted history as her victory will be India's first gold in the Asian Games 2023.
