Are you having no interest in any type of sexual activity? Nor are you having any sexual fantasies or thoughts? Well, there is no need to be concerned about your lack of sexual interest. It is in fact very common to experience low sex drive.

There are various reasons for a low or decreased sex drive in women. The loss of sexual desire is termed as hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD). However, a simple change in lifestyle may sometimes help to increase your sex drive. Here are 5 causes of low sex drive in women:

1. Lifestyle and mental health

The lifestyle one leads can have a huge impact on your sexual life too. If you have a habit of regular smoking, or drinking too much alcohol both can affect your sex drive. In fact, stress or anxiety negatively affects your mood and that in turns impacts your sex life.

However, a common cause for low sex drive in women is fatigue. After a long day at work, household chores, and the responsibilities of children, women are tired and weak to engage in sexual activities. Sometimes add to that low self-esteem among women because they may not meet stereotypical beauty standards.

2. Medical factors

Diseases like arthritis, cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure, or any neurological diseases can affect your sex drive. Further, if you are taking any medicines or other treatments, there could be a chance of low sexual interest. Anti-depressants can be suppressors. Any other earlier surgeries related to your breasts or genital tract can also affect your sexual desire.

3. Hormonal changes

Women going through pregnancy or those breastfeeding commonly see a low sex drive. This is because our hormones and body change a lot during these phases. Sometimes, the pressure and responsibility of a child may also add to this through anxiety.

Mood swings are indeed common among women during menstrual cycles. But sexual desires may take a break during menopause. Estrogen levels drop during this time and this can make you less interested in sexual activities. However, many women still enjoy sex successfully after menopause.

4. Relationship instabilities

Sexual intimacy for women is closely related to emotional connection. Any problems in your relationship with your partner can lead to a low sex drive. Having regular fights, arguments, and trust issues may make you uncomfortable during sexual interaction. Therefore this lack of connection may lead you to lose interest in sexual activities.

Further, having healthy communication about sexual needs and preferences is a key to successful sex life.

5. Sexual problems

If you are having pain during sex can make you less interested. Also if you cannot orgasm may lead to a low sex drive. Further, if you have any history of negative sexual abuse, you may not prefer to engage in sexual activities.
