In a recent episode of The Rulebreaker Show, content creator Meghranjani Das joined Shaili Chopra, founder of SheThePeople and Gytree, for an open discussion about financial independence, family expectations, mental health, freedom, future plans and more. eghranjani explains that her videos gaining popularity on social media was the key to her financial independence.
She shared, "My videos became so viral and I became financially independent. So that was a big step for me to move out". She highlighted that coming from a background where her lifestyle was not considered "normal," she had to fight for her dreams and financial autonomy.
Finding Freedom Through Financial Independence
Meghranjani discussed the profound impact of her family's lack of support on her work as a content creator and how it impacted her mental health. She revealed that she had felt so overwhelmed that she attempted suicide 2-3 times. She said, "I felt like it's better to fight for myself, to do something rather than live a life like this, you know, a suffocating life".
For three years, she felt trapped, but she eventually made the brave decision to fight for her own life rather than live in a state of constant suppression.
Moving to Delhi marked a significant turning point, where she finally felt she had achieved true freedom. She revealed that her family questioned her decision to move, advising her to stay in her hometown and live a normal life.
Residing in Delhi, she is now enjoying simple experiences for the first time, saying, "I have never travelled alone, I have never been to any restaurant, I have never eaten fast food, and all these things. So now I'm doing all these things and it feels like a dream".
Her story serves as an important reminder about the value of financial independence, especially for young people who may lack support from their parents to pursue their dreams or an unconventional career. She emphasises that financial independence is "extremely important for a person to follow their dreams".
She strongly believes that it's essential to fight for what you want in life, as she noted, "Parents are not always right. You have to take a stand for yourself". She advises, "Do whatever you can to become financially independent", and that if a traditional job isn't an option, find another way.
