Who Says You Can’t Marry A Blind Person ?

blind husband
Supriya has been married to her blind husband for eight years. In an interview with SheThePeople, she says that he is the best thing that happened to her. Here’s her story.

“Gaurav and I met in college in the US and hit off instantly. He was visually impaired due to a genetic disorder. Life wasn’t easy for me either. I had a digestive condition that made it difficult for me to give my 100 percent to academics.

Besides bonding over our unique health challenges, we would also talk at length about our passion for making an impact in the world through our work. I loved his company. He wanted to take our friendship to the next level but I wasn’t sure about our future. I told him I would like to continue being friends with him.

It is not easy to live with a blind person but true love sees beyond someone’s disabilities. Our bond is only getting stronger with each passing day. And why shouldn’t it? Gaurav is everything I had dreamt of.”

A few years later, we returned to India. That’s when we started interacting more often. After being best friends for 5 years, he proposed to me for marriage. ‘It will be difficult. How will you manage?’, I was warned but I didn’t care. I knew that I couldn’t find anyone else I connected so deeply with. I said, ‘Yes’ to his marriage proposal.
