India’s star wrestler Sangeeta Phogat and world number one wrestler Bajrang Punia are husband and wife! Sangeeta shared glimpses from her pre-wedding ceremonies on Instagram along with the her sisters. As per a report by Navbharat Times, the youngest Phogat sisters' wedding took place in Balali, Haryana, on November 25. Only close friends and family members attended the ceremonies following the COVID-19 protocol.

Earlier, Sangeeta had shared a series of photos from her Haldi ceremony, wearing floral jewellery and dressing in yellow, twinning with sisters Geeta and Babita Phogat.

Babita Phogat also took to her Instagram and wrote, "Enjoyed the essence of HALDI Ceremony." She tweeted:
Announcing their winter wedding earlier in August, Sangeeta had said that they wanted to get married before moving their focus on Tokyo Olympics, rescheduled to July 2021. Previously, she had said in an interview to Wrestling TV, “We (Bajrang and I) do not talk about marriage a lot. He is focussed on the Olympics and is working hard for it. He has my full support and the wedding can wait if it has to”.

How did Bajrang and Sangeeta meet?
“Geeta and Babita knew Bajrang from before. I met him at the SAI Center where he used to train. We started talking, started liking each other’s company. We started feeling for each other, it was mutual. My parents also liked him as he was a good wrestler with a lovable personality. Then the elders met and decided that we should get married,” Sangeeta recalled.
She is also eyeing to make a comeback to the mat soon. “I am eyeing for a comeback as now the time is my biggest ally,” said the 22-year-old who had suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear last year. She further claimed that “had the Olympics been held this year, I could not have made a comeback. But now I will make a return in the 62kg”.
Talking about how her now-husband makes an effort to help her, Sangeeta said, “He keeps me motivated and also helps in my training”.
Bajrang, the 65kg category wrestler, and Sangeet, who is a former national medalist in the 59 kg weight category, got engaged last year and had announced their decision to get married in 2019.
