It was reported that the two women slowly poisoned the family members over a span of 20 days and used a heavy metal called arsenic for the act. Arsenic, a chemical which is colourless, odourless and tasteless heavy metal, when mixed with food or water is allegedly undetectable in medical reports. The women together researched about slow poisoning on the Internet and one of them travelled to Telangana to purchase the chemical that was used in the mass killing.

Two Women Arrested For Murdering Family Members

After the mysterious deaths of five people of the same family within a span of 20 days, the investigators revealed an elaborate conspiracy of the two women named Rosa and Sanghmitra behind the mass murder. The two accused were arrested on October 18 by the Gadchiroli police in Maharashtra.

One of the two women, Sanghmitra alleged that her husband and in-laws constantly taunted her, while the other woman, Rosa, revealed she was upset over sharing her husband's property, as per the police.

The two used arsenic poisoning which is known for slow poisoning and killing without leaving a trace in medical examinations.

On September 20, Shankar Kambhare and his wife Vijaya (parents-in-law of Sanghmitra) fell ill showing symptoms of food poisoning and were initially admitted to a local hospital in Aheri, but as their condition rapidly started worsening and they experienced body pain and cardiac issues, they were admitted to a hospital in Chandrapur and were finally shifted to Nagpur, Maharashtra.

Due to the effects of slow poisoning, Shankar died on September 26 while his wife died on the following day.

While the family was still grieving, the couple's children, daughters Komal and Ananda and son Roshan were hospitalised due to the effects of the slow poisoning. Komal died on October 8, her sister Ananda on October 14, and their brother Roshan Kumbhare (husband of Sanghmitra) on October 15.

Upon hearing the death of his parents and three siblings, the eldest son of the couple, Sagar Kumbhare rushed from Delhi to Chandrapur but he fell sick as well after returning home after the death of his whole family.

Even the driver of the Kumbhare family, Rakesh Madavi, who also drove the couple to the hospital fell sick and had to be hospitalised as he drank the water from the same poisoned bottle that was provided to Shankar and Vijaya while taking them to the hospital.

A relative who visited the family in Chandrapur and Nagpur fell ill as well and needed some treatment.

The Investigation Reveal

The two women felt successful in their plans until the medical team sensed some foul play. The administration immediately formed four teams to conduct inquiries from various districts of Maharashtra and Telangana. During the investigation, they also kept a close eye on Sanghmitra and discovered that she married Roshan against her parents's will and was upset by the recent demise of her father who died by suicide

The teams also learned that Sanghmitra was unhappy with her husband (Roshan) and her in-laws (Shankar and Vijaya Kumbhare) for throwing taunts at her and concluded this was the reason she wanted to get rid of them.

Meanwhile, Rosa Ramteke, who was a sister-in-law to Vijaya and Shankar Kumbhare (wife of Shankar's brother) had disagreements over sharing ancestral property of her husband's parents with Shankar and Vijaya and hence decided to kill the family joining hands with family's daughter-in-law.
