A 36-year-old man murdered his four-month pregnant wife by setting her ablaze after they quarrelled over a domestic issue at Maraimalai Nagar in Kancheepuram district of Tamil Nadu on the night of October 12.
Police identified the accused as Rajkumar and the deceased woman as 28-year-old Nandhini. The couple has been married for the past seven years and has a six-year-old son.

The accused was jobless and resided in Govindapuram, near Maraimalai Nagar. The couple often used to fight over his drinking habit over the past year.
According to a senior police official, on the morning of October 12, the woman found her husband in an inebriated state. This led to an argument between the two. As the argument escalated, the accused kicked his wife on the stomach, injuring her hands and legs severely.
In a fit of rage, he poured kerosene all over her while she was lying on the ground and set her ablaze. He then fled the scene along with his son.
Hearing the woman’s screams the neighbours arrived at the scene. They managed to subdue the fire, rescue her and sent her to the Government Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital in Chennai.
As the woman suffered 90 percent of the burns, she succumbed to her injuries. On the evening of October 12, the police traced the accused and took him into custody. He was then remanded in judicial custody.
UP Pregnant Woman Set Ablaze By Mother And Brother
Less than a month back on September 29, a 21-year-old woman was set on fire by her mother and brother after they discovered their unmarried daughter was pregnant. The incident happened in Nawada Khurd village in Uttar Pradesh. When her family asked her about the identity of the child’s father, the woman didn’t reveal anything. Angered by this, her mother and brother took her to a nearby forest, poured petrol on her, and set her on fire. some farmers spotted the burning woman and rushed her to the hospital with 70 per cent burns. The accused were arrested by the police.
Delhi Pregnant Woman Set On Fire By Husband
Back in January, a 26-year-old pregnant woman was set on fire by her husband at their home in outer Delhi’s Bawana. Initially, when the police inquired about the woman, she claimed that she had sustained the injuries while sitting next to a bonfire. The seven-month-old pregnant woman suffered injuries to her face, hands, and limbs. Later, in a statement to the sub-divisional magistrate, the woman alleged that her husband had been harassing her since they got married, and he was the one who set her on fire.
