Woman Stabbed 13 Times By Man For Rejecting Him

The survivor, identified as Prachi Malik, received 13 stabs on her face, fingers, and thighs. She is currently undergoing treatment and is said to be out of danger.

The accused claimed that the two had been friends for the past two years, but later she started ignoring him. According to the police, the duo met two to three years ago when they were working at the same office in Lajpat Nagar.

On the morning of October 12, Prachi Malik was on her way to attend an interview workshop in Vishwas Nagar and had booked a cab. The accused, who works as a recruiter for an international firm, reached the spot in his Hyundai i10 and was waiting for her.

On October 11, the accused had spoken to Prachi Malik around 8 a.m. when she informed him that she was at work. She usually used to leave her home between 6 a.m. and 6.30 a.m. before blocking his number.

DCP South Chandan Chowdhary said that the accused had turned up near her home around 5.30 am to meet her. Further, he had also claimed that the girl had been ignoring him for the past month and that the duo had met for the last time 10–12 days ago.

Prachi Malik’s mother, Shakuntla Malik, said that she was sleeping when her daughter left for work after praying.

DCP Chowdhary said that the accused tried to talk to the girl and offered to drop her off at work, but she refused to talk to him. The argument escalated, and she slapped him four times. The accused attempted to snatch her phone, and she shouted “chor chor” and then boarded the cab.

The accused followed her all the while arguing. He then allegedly stabbed her with a knife he had brought from home and kept in his trouser pocket.

Hearing the girl’s screams, local people came forward to help while the cab driver caught hold of the accused. The police were alerted around 6:20 am, and the accused was handed over to them. A video of the incident was shot, showing the woman with her face and head splattered with blood, crying and pleading with people to take her to the hospital. However, the authenticity of the video has yet to be ascertained.

The police stated that the woman had made a PCR call on September 10 to complain that Gaurav Pal was harassing her. A police official said that when they reached the spot, they found the issue was related to money that had been borrowed, and the woman didn’t want action to be taken on that day.
