According to the police, Anusya, an 86-year-old resident of Triplicane, approached City Police Commissioner Sandeep Rai Rathore's office on Wednesday. She submitted a plea to Commissioner Rathore, requesting help in reuniting with her son, Sathyanarayanan, 67, who she believes is residing in Mumbai.

Woman Looks For Missing Son

Assuring her of assistance, Rathore instructed Deputy Commissioner Deshmukh Shekhar Sanjay from Triplicane to visit Anusya's residence and address her concerns.

Anusya is the mother of three sons, but the whereabouts of two of them are currently unknown. Her third son left home at a young age and is thought to be living in Mumbai with his wife and children.

DCP Shekhar shared that Anusya, a vegetarian, has been facing distress due to living alone in a locality with a significant population of fishermen.

"Due to her strict vegetarian lifestyle, she felt uncomfortable around individuals cooking fish and meat. Since she lacked assistance in relocating, she turned to the police to locate her son. Although I suggested arranging a move to an elderly care facility, she declined, as she prefers preparing her food and taking care of herself," explained DCP Shekhar.

The officer recounted that Anusya mentioned that her grandchildren had visited her recently and taken some belongings along with her savings of Rs 10,000.

"While we attempted to contact her son, his phone was switched off. We are implementing measures to locate her son and exploring options to move her to a more comfortable rental residence," the officer elaborated.

Senior Citizen's Plight

The GCP Commissioner stressed that senior citizens should not have to visit the police station for grievances. Instead, the relevant officers are advised to visit their residences to address concerns.

"We are giving special attention to elderly individuals in the city, particularly those living in isolation from neighbours and relatives. We employ a system wherein police personnel identify senior citizens and conduct home visits. In this instance, a patrolling officer has been designated to visit her home and regularly check on her well-being," DCP Shekhar concluded.
