While the advocate's father tried convincing her that she could do "whatever she wanted" after marriage, she explained to him why he was wrong.

After some argument, the father had no other option but to back down. After she shared the screenshots of her chat on her Twitter handle, she received mixed responses.

Advocate Swati and her conversation with her father

On Friday, July 2, Advocate Swati took to her Twitter handle and shared the screenshots of her conversation with her father regarding liberty and marriage. She tweeted, "Recently my parents pulled a 'Get married and do whatever you like'. So, I thought of answering them through texts".

Swati tried convincing her father through a SheThePeople post that read, "Teaching your daughters that the only way they'll have freedom in this world  is after they're married is so toxic." When her father said that one can get liberty only after marriage, she explained to him that he could not snatch away others' freedom just because he didn't get his.

The advocate also explained to him that liberty is a birthright and it exists independent of marriage. She told him, "Liberty is a birthright. If one doesn't get married, it exists still. This is non-debatable". Ultimately, she succeeded in convincing him. Her father's final text reads, "Ok Amma meri"

Here's how Twitter responded

A user named Abhishek Maitra said that he really liked her spirit of raising her voice against the injustice of any kind. She explained how injustice starts to take shape in the society from our very own house on some innocent level.

Another user pointed out how most of the time, it is always parents who take decisions for their children. If this continues to happen, do we even get to live our own lives?

Advocate Swati knows well how to school sexists and their regressive comments. A user said that her parents care for her and are "talking sense". She retorted saying that she is an adult with her own agency and that no one has any right to command her.
