According to Sonar's statement to the local police, he and his wife lost their balance while taking pictures on the rock, leading to a tragic slip. Despite the efforts of a nearby man, Jyoti couldn't be saved. Her body was discovered on June 10 after a 20-hour search operation conducted by the Mumbai Coast Guard.

Sonar revealed that their family regularly went on picnics every fortnight, and that week they had initially planned to visit a different area. However, due to restricted entry at Juhu Beach caused by high tide, they chose to visit Bandra instead.

According to Sonar's account of the Indian daily, Jyoti joined him as they ventured into the sea, both enjoying the sensation of the water splashing on their clothes. However, they were cautious about their children coming closer, as the sea was rough at the time.

That evening, the police and fire brigade responded to the incident at Bandra Bandstand and initiated a search operation for the missing woman. Due to a high tide warning, Juhu and Versova beaches were closed to the public.
