Marta Ortega, daughter of Amancio Ortega who founded Zara, will be replacing Pablo Isla as the chairperson of the fashion giant Inditex. The firm owns brands such as Massimo Dutti, Zara including others.

In her statement, she said, "I have always said I would dedicate my life to building upon my parents' legacy."

"I have lived and breathed this company since my childhood, and I have learned from all the great professionals I have worked with over the last 15 years," she added.

Who Is Marta Ortega?

Ortega reportedly started out as an assistant at the fashion brand Bershka. The 37-year-old has worked with Inditex since the past 15 years.

She had led several campaigns of Zara to strengthen its brand image. She was also part of the launch of Zara's premium collected Zara SRPLS and Charlotte Gainsbourg by Zara. She got married to Carlos Toretta, a modelling agent in 2018 in a private ceremony which was followed by elaborate parties for the family's friends and acquaintances. On her wedding day, she wore an outfit designed by Valentino's Pierpaolo Piccioli who reportedly himself delivered the dress to her.

The firm, Inditex was founded by her father Amancio Ortega and his ex-wife Rosalia in Galicia, Spain in 1975. Ortega is the one of the richest men in the world with a reported net worth of $77.8bn. He was serving as the chairman of Inditex till 2011. The parent company has more than 6,600 shops worldwide with brands like Pull&Bear and several others who dominate the high street fashion world.

The fast fashion brand is infamous for its unsustainable practices. As per reports, most of its clothing comes from its headquarters in Spain and nearby countries such as Morocco, Turkey and Portugal. Zara also appointed its new chief executive Óscar García Maceiras on Tuesday. He had recently joined the brand as its general counsel and secretary of the board. He has earlier worked as a Spanish state attorney and in the private sectors working for many banks.

Isla who retired from his post had reported driven the international expansion plan of Inditex for the past 17 years.
