The month of December reminds us that another year is about to end, it is about Christmas carols or New Year shoutouts. Festive months are also targeted months for film releases. Many films are scheduled to release on the big screen after the theatres have started welcoming back the audiences. The releases on Over-The-Top platforms also look tempting too. Here is a list of upcoming films in December.

As we enter the last month of the year 2021, here are  some exciting films to watch out for:

Bob Biswas

Release Date: December 3

Abhishek Bachchan plays the tutelar middle-aged hitman-for hire Bob Biswas. Biswas comes out of a prolonged coma and is unable to remember any details of his life and family. The film stars Chitrangda Singh as Biswas's wife. The character is a spin-off to the 2012 thriller starring Vidya Balan, Kahaani. It is directed by Diya Annapurna Ghosh and is scheduled to release on the streaming platform Zee5.

Cobalt Blue

Release Date: December 3

The film is based on the best-selling novel by Sachin Kundalkar. It is a story of a brother and a sister falling in love with the same man. The film routes the discovery of sexuality to the complicated relationships and stars Anjali Sivaraman, Prateik Babbar and Neelay Mehendale. It will be available on Netflix for viewing.

Pushpa: The Rise

Release Date: December 17

The film directed by Sukumar is going to release its official trailer on December 5. The film is going to release in theatres in two parts. Initially, the first part was to release on December 25 but to avoid a clash with Ranveer Singh starrer 83, they changed the dates. The plot revolves around the lives of red sandalwood smugglers of Andhra Pradesh and will star Allu Arjun as Pushpa Raj and Rashmika Mandanna as Srivalli. It also includes the critically acclaimed actor Fahadh Faasil.

Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui

The romantic drama directed by Abhishek Kapoor was announced back in July 2020, the trailer of the film was released recently. Ayushmann Khurrana who is known for being part of films with a social message will be seen as a lead character. He plays a bodybuilder and Vaani Kapoor will be reportedly playing a trans woman. The story revolves around them and their relationship. The movie, before its release, got criticism for a cis woman, Vaani Kapoor playing a trans woman character.

Release Date: December 10

An adaptation of 2019 Telugu crime-comedy Brochevarevarura, the film is backed by Ajay Devgn. This is the first time Abhay Deol will be sharing the screen with his nephew Karan Deol, who is the son of an actor and Member of Parliament (MP) Sunny Deol. The plot revolves around three criminals, a runaway girl, an aspiring director played by Abhay Deol, three best friends of the runaway girl and much more. Everyone's path crosses in connection with an incident. What happens next will be revealed on December 10 in theatres.

Decoupled

Release Date: December 17 (OTT Netflix)

R Madhavan and Surveen Chawla will be playing the role of husband and wife in a soupy relationship. The couple also has a daughter. The spin to the story is them visiting couple therapy and trying to understand at what point did they fall out of love. It's a romantic comedy, in which Madhavan plays the role of a Delhi-based writer and Chawla a corporate employee. It is written by Manu Joseph and directed by Hardik Mehta.

Don't Look Up

Release Date: December 24; Will get a limited theatrical release too on December 10

The film starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence and Meryl Streep will first release theatrically on December 10 and then release globally on December 24 on Netflix. The plot revolves around two low-level astronomers trying to warn mankind of an approaching comet that will destroy the earth but their voice is comically ignored. It also stars Ariana Grande in a cameo.

Release Date: December 24

Taking one back to the day when the Indian Cricket team first lifted the World Cup Trophy in 1983, the film is an ode to Kapil Dev and his teammates. Ranveer Singh will be playing the role of young Kapil and Deepika Padukone as Romi Dev, his wife. The trailer was released on November 30 and the film will have a theatrical release after waiting for two long years due to COVID-19.

Atrangi Re

Release Date: December 24 (OTT: Hotstar Disney+)

A musical romantic drama, the film will be directed by Aanand L. Rai and stars Akshay Kumar, Sara Ali Khan and Dhanush in lead roles. Khan will be playing a girl from Bihar. The plot will be running on two different timelines. It is a love story between Khan and Kumar in one timeline. Khan and Dhanush in another. It will be an inter-culture love story, with Khan from Bihar and Dhanush from Madhurai. The film will release on Disney+ Hotstar.

Jersey

Release Date: December 31

Directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri, the sports drama film is a remake of a 2019 Telugu film with the same title. It stars Shahid Kapoor as a cricketer, Mrunal Thakur as his wife. The film also casts Pankaj Kapur. The film finished its shoot on December 14, 2020, and will release this year in theatres. It's a story of a 33-year -old cricketer named Arjun.
