Sundar spoke about how her first step would be to encourage women to speak up against trolling and online bullying.

Politician Khushbu Sundar was nominated as a member of the National Commission for Women (NCW).

The Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) leader informed that she would go to Delhi on February 28 to take charge as a member of the NCW.

The actor-turned-politician took to Twitter and thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Indian government for "entrusting" her with the huge responsibility.

She added that she would work towards protecting Nari Shakthi (women's power).

Soon after her appointment, Sundar spoke about how her first step would be to encourage women to speak up against trolling and online bullying. She said that her first programme would be to urge women to speak up.

Khushbu Sundar also mentioned she would ensure that no political party partakes in trolling or body shaming any woman.

Who Is Khushbu Sundar?

  • Khusbhbu Sundar is an actor, television presenter, film producer, and politician. She is best known for her work in Tamil films and acted in more than a thousand Tamil films.
  • Born as Nakhat Khan, her parents gave her the stage name Khushbu when she started to become a child actress.
  • The actor's political career began in 2010 after she joined the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. She quit DMK after four years and later joined the Indian National Congress.
  • After 6 years in INC, she resigned and joined the Bharatiya Janta Party in October 2020.
  • During the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections in 2021, Sundar filed her nomination from the Thousand Lights assembly constituency seat.
  • She lost the election by a margin of 32,200 votes to Ezhilan N of DMK.
  • In 2021, Sundar spoke up against fellow BJP leader V Gopikrishnan for his derogatory comment against DMK women's wing leader MK Kanimozhi.
  • Gopikrishnan responded to a question regarding permission to enter a temple's sanctum sanctorum and asked Kanimozhi whether the temple was like her bedroom and open for anybody to enter.
  • Netizens slammed the politician for the obscene comment and Sundar took to Twitter to share that regardless of the political party, any person making a derogatory comment about a woman should be condemned.
