Late singer Whitney Houston’s second studio album, Whitney (1987), has been certified with Diamond status by the Recording Industry Association of America. With this new feat, Houston is now the first Black artist to have earned her third diamond-certified album. The R&B singer who passed away in 2012 officially earned diamond certification for selling 10 million copies for her second studio album. Eight years after her tragic passing, as a tribute, Houston will also be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame next week. She is the only woman on the list.

As per an Associated Press report, the album Whitney has reached diamond status alongside her previously certified albums Whitney Houston (1985) and the film The Bodyguard soundtrack (1992). These two albums sold 13 million and 18 million units, respectively.

In a statement, Houston’s estate thanked the singer‘s fans “for their abiding love for her music and making this achievement come true.” There’s another reason to celebrate Houston’s music this year, as this week her 1992 track I Will Always Love You reach one billion views on YouTube. With this, her music video became only the fourth single from the entire decade to reach 10-digit viewership numbers on the video-sharing platform.
