Ramesh Babu, 45, is a resident of Ashok Nagar in Chennai. He was arrested by the police and has been kept in judicial custody. According to the District Crime Branch police, the complainant got acquainted with the accused through common connections in February 2018. Ramesh Babu introduced himself as the nephew of the former AIADMK Minister and promised V Gunasekaran, 47, that he will get him employed.

Police stated that the nephew of V Saroja allegedly asked for ₹35 lakh from the complainant and his friends. The amount was deposited in Ramesh and his wife's bank accounts in multiple instalments. According to the police, Gunasekaran did not hear any word from Ramesh after making the payment. He then called the accused and asked him to return the money. Reacting to this, Ramesh Babu allegedly threatened Gunasekaran. This is when the complainant filed a police report in Vallipuram.

According to a report, DCB's Superintendent of Police N. Shreenatha constituted a special team of police with Sub-Inspector G. Senthil Kumar. The team nabbed Ramesh Babu on Wednesday night. He was first produced in court and then sent to judicial custody. The police are now searching for other persons connected with the case.
