Video Of UP Minor’s Gangrape Circulated On Social Media: Report

Minor gangrape video: Two men reportedly raped a 16-year-old girl in Uttar Pradesh’s Shahjahanpur and uploaded a video of the act on social media. Reports suggest the incident took place two months ago but came to light only this week when the survivor’s father came across the purported video of the gangrape.

The girl’s mother filed a police complaint in the case and claimed her daughter had even attempted suicide following the incident, an India Today report says.

The two accused have reportedly been taken into custody and booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act. The girl has reportedly undergone a medical examination and will record her statement in the case.

Minor Gangrape Video: Other Such Cases Recently

Several disturbing cases like the minor gangrape video one from Uttar Pradesh have made headlines in recent times. In June this year, a 19-year-old woman was reportedly raped in Sambhal when she went to collect resources from the forest with other women. A video of the act was put out online, as per police authorities who took cognisance of the crime punishable under the Information Technology (IT) Act.

Last year in September, yet another minor was gangraped in UP by five men who uploaded a video of the act on social media. The issue only came to light when the video began doing rounds.

In May 2021, a video went viral in North East India in which a young girl was seen being brutalised by multiple persons. The case captured national attention. Further investigations revealed the incident occurred in Bengaluru and the accused and survivor were Bangladeshis part of a cross-border sex trafficking ring. 12 so far have been arrested. Another rape case from Rewari involved six minor boys who allegedly sexually assaulted a 10-year-old girl and shot a video of the same.
