Tuberculosis Patient Raped In An ICU Of A Private Gurugram Hospital

A 21-year-old patient admitted at Gurugram's Fortis Hospital was allegedly raped by a hospital worker. The incident happened while she was in a semi-conscious condition on a ventilator at the hospital.

When the woman regained her consciousness, she wrote the name of the rapist- Vikas on a piece of paper and gave a three-page letter to her father narrating the whole incident in it. The woman’s father then reported the matter to the police on October 27. Her father asked, “How can anyone do such a thing with a patient who is on a ventilator?”

According to Zee News, an FIR (First Information Report) was registered in connection with the incident at Sushant Lok Police Station. After receiving the complaint, the police rushed to the hospital to take the woman’s statement, but she was not in a condition to record one.

Maqsood Ahmed, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) said, “The woman is unconscious. So her statement could not be recorded. A case has been registered under Section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC)” reported The Tribune.

As per the report, the survivor is a resident of Mahendragarh. The woman was in isolation in a private room of the ICU (Intensive Care Unit) when the incident took place.

DCP Ahmed said that the case is being investigated, adding that the parents of the woman do not even know whether the accused is an employee of the hospital or not. According to police, the questioning of hospital management about the incident is currently underway. DCP Ahmed added, “The situation will be clear only after the woman gives her statement.” 

Fortis Hospital has said that it is fully cooperating with the investigation.
