Tripura Woman Dies After House Wall Collapses Due To Heavy Rainfall

In Tripura's Khowai district, a tragic incident occurred on Wednesday as a 58-year-old woman lost her life due to the collapse of the mud wall of her house while she was asleep. The unfortunate incident took place following heavy rainfall in the area.

According to a report from the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC), the deceased has been identified as Sabitri Sarkar, a resident of Ghilatali village in the Kalyanpur area of Khowai district.

In response to the incident, a senior SEOC official stated that an inquiry has been initiated based on a preliminary report received from the additional district magistrate in Khowai.

Continued Heavy Rainfall In Tripura Claims Woman's Life 

During the incident, Sabitri Sarkar's husband, Murari, reported hearing a loud noise around 3 am and discovering that a wall of their house had collapsed. Tragically, his wife became trapped under the debris, along with their livestock, consisting of goats and birds. Murari called for assistance, managed to rescue his wife from the rubble, and swiftly took her to a nearby hospital. Despite receiving medical treatment, Sabitri Sarkar succumbed to her injuries.

To determine the cause of death, a post-mortem examination was conducted. The local Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA), Pinaki Das Chowdhury, visited the grieving family and assured them of government support during this difficult time.

The Jirania subdivision in west Tripura witnessed severe damage to multiple houses as a result of heavy rainfall. According to the report, immediate compensation of Rs 30,000 was provided to nine individuals whose houses were affected by the calamity.

The State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) report reveals that within the past five days, three fatalities occurred in the state. The report highlights that over the past five days, the state has witnessed three tragic fatalities.

On July 2, a 10-year-old girl lost her life and a five-year-old girl sustained injuries due to a mudslide triggered by relentless rain in a village located in Tripura's Gomati district. In separate incidents of lightning strikes in June, two individuals tragically lost their lives, and several others, including a pregnant woman, were injured.
